We have access to the best swimming lessons. The sessions are one week and are only offered two weeks out of the year. Rhett has been taking lessons every summer since he was baby and has always loved the water, so I signed him up for both weeks. Emma has never done any sort of class, and she doesn't like water in her face, so I only signed her up for the second week. Rhett was nervous at first, but he got into the swing of it right away and made lots of progress. He can do the freestyle and backstroke now, and he knows survival skills like getting into back float if he needs to catch his breath. Emma was so excited on her first day and hopped right in. The second day was a different story, and she screamed for the rest of her lessons. She even managed to get sick at school on her last day of lessons, so she had to sit out on the "performance day." She seemed healthy to me, so I am kind of wondering if she figured out that "being sick" gets you out of things you don't want to do. Needless to say, the coaches crowned her "cutest chipmonk cheeks" for holding her breath (which she demonstrated for the picture below along with her superman arms). The coaches final assessment of the two kids is that Rhett is a strong swimmer and couldn't be much better for his age. They also said he is a hardworker, and he will do great with swimming. They said Emma is starting a good foundation, and she is a "strong personality."
