First Recital

Recital week is just plain nuts around here, and it doesn't help that we wound up going to the most notable studio in town (not necessarily my choice, I wanted her in class with one of her cousins, and it's the studio that they use), and that we happen to live in Texas where "everything is bigger and better."  Anyway, Emma was in one dance since it was her first year, so she had one night of dress rehearsal and one night of actual performance.  Here's where it gets crazy, I had to leave work at 2:00 both days in order to pick her up, get her makeup done and be where we needed to be each day.  Her dress rehearsal was Tuesday, and luckily we were done by about 6:30 or so...dress rehearsal typically lasts until about 10:30pm if you're one of the last dances (yes, this is a school night, so I'm dreading next year).  Also, it's not uncommon to be in all three nights of recital.  If that happens, you have dress rehearsal every day (Monday - Wednesday) followed immediately by recital every day (Thursday - Saturday).  Her recital day was Friday, and her dance wound up on stage at about 8:40pm!  So, as much as that seems so crazy to me, it could have been so much worse, and honestly the little girls handled it very very well.

She did very good.  I was so worried because the first day I picked her up, she started refusing to get ready.  She didn't want the makeup, and she didn't want anyone to see her.  Thankfully, by the time we got to the auditorium and saw all the other girls, she was pumped!  She had previously proven that she will get up on stage and perform when she had to sing with the kids for Mothers Day at church, so I was just hoping she would get on stage and perform again.  And, she did it!  She was so cute because she was so fascinated by the big stage, so at first you could see her looking all around with this big smile on her face.  But, she quickly got right into her dance.  She did the same thing for recital, so it was just awesome.  And because we do things "big" around here, she got several gifts and bouquets of flowers.  She's very excited to try tap dancing next year :)

This was the present she got in the morning.

Here we are getting ready to head out.

And, here she is all ready to go.
